Notes
Gahan, 1917 Proc. USNM 53:203. Synonym of Opius subgenus Xynobius (inferred from Fischer 1972, based on his treatment of carinaticeps as a synonym of rudis even though he does not list Neopius Gahan anywhere in the list of Xynobius synonyms. Opius rudis was placed by Fischer in Xynobius). Van Achterberg (2004) does NOT include Neopius among the synonyms of Xynobius. Fischer (1967) apparently realized that most of the species he included in Neopius Gahan were different from Gahan’s type species and he therefore described a new genus (Euopius) to accomodate them. There was never a Neopius Fischer, only a Neopius Gahan sensu Fischer. Fischer (1977, p. 1) is confusing in this regard.
